Here is information about the Autoimmune Overcomer Academy Program created to help women with autoimmune disease reduce the burden on their immune system in order to reverse the damage that causes them to be sick, exhausted, overweight and in pain. If you need more information, don’t worry; simply email us at email@example.com or CLICK HERE to schedule a call.
Your Immune System: Is it “Tough Enough”?
Those of us diagnosed with autoimmune disease are daily faced with an increased burden of inflammation, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Now we are made aware more than ever the possibility of viral infection.
As I’ve been telling my patients, family, and friends, every year we run the risk of serious viral upper respiratory infections including influenza and common colds (Rhinoviruses, Coronaviruses, and respiratory syncytial viruses). This year, however, there is a new kid on the block called COVID-19.
For many of us, our resistance to infection may be linked to our immune system’s fitness, our mitochondrial fitness and our antioxidant status. Unfortunately, if we don’t check, we don’t have a clue how our immune system stands, or if it’s “tough enough” to protect us if we are exposed to pathogens.
Yes, our immune function, mitochondrial function and antioxidant status is in part determined genetically. However, environmental factors, nutrient levels, age, chronic illness/infections, toxic exposure, and stress could play important roles on how well you hold up.
There are 6 primary metabolic pathways that affect the immune function and 5 of these processes take place in our mitochondria. Exposure to a pathogen, for example a respiratory virus, alters the use of several of these pathways. Once you are infected by a respiratory RNA virus, it will increase cellular oxidative stress to improve viral replication and suppress immune responses.
Here is the problem. When this occurs, we lose our antioxidant capacity and we lose our inflammatory anti-viral responses even when the infection is gone. This will make us susceptible to other infections.
It’s not too late to check your immune system’s fitness, mitochondrial fitness, and antioxidant status in order to begin supporting and building up your immune pathways.
I am able to send testing kits to your home. They require a finger stick blood sample, urine, and a stool sample. When all the tests are resulted we will then set up an online conference call for a report of findings and discuss a personalized 12 week strategy plan that will enable you to “toughen up” your immune function against viruses and other pathogens.
